Clinical Assessments & Treatment
In addition to routine clinical assessments, Dr Michael Borschmann’s assessment of your problem may include the following:
Fibreoptic laryngoscopy
Patients with problems in their noses, sinuses or throats may require a fiberoptic examination via the nose during the consultation. Such conditions could include nasal obstruction, chronic sinusitis, swallowing or voice disturbance or pre-operative assessments before thyroid surgery. The procedure is well tolerated by the vast majority of patients, including children.
Same-day ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration
Many neck masses and thyroid nodules require an ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration for diagnosis and Dr Michael Borschmann provides clinical assessment combined with ultrasound-guided FNA when required. A cytological opinion of the specimen will usually be available immediately, with the patient present. If you have a neck or thyroid lump that may need this service, please let the reception staff know when you make your booking to ensure you are booked on a day when the pathologist is available.
Otomicroscopy
Using a microscope to examine the ear can be done during the consultation. In some instances, a procedure may be required with the use of the microscope, for example to treat a discharging ear or assess for damage to the tympanic membrane (ear drum) or middle ear structures.

Contact DetailsDay Procedures
Dr Michael Borschmann strongly believes patients recover best in the comfort of their homes in the company of family and friends and performs most nose and sinus, grommets and tonsil procedures in St John of God Hospital day-procedure theatres. Day-procedure patients are able to leave hospital once they have sufficiently recovered from their surgery and can recuperate at home. While most day procedures are done in the operating theatre, some minor procedures, such as biopsies, can be done in the rooms where appropriate. Please discuss this with reception staff when making your booking. Referrals from GPs
Dr Michael Borschmann encourages GPs to communicate via ReferralNet, except for urgent referrals. In the case of urgent referrals, GPs should call and speak directly to Dr Borschmann.
